- Manager of a company:
In
little more than a year I as a manager, together with the personnel,
setup this company for a CEO of a 'umbrella' holding. In august
1999 we started with the plans, policy, target audience determination,
before we opened. Pretty fast we grew to a team of 6 people. My
task was to manage the the company: determine strategy on a holding
level with accociated companies and the CEO, project administration,
project management, financial responsibility and consultation with
accountant, planning, purchasing and other daily tasks. This all
worked in a structured and standardized way, without losing the
freshness and flexibility of a dynamic multimedia company.
2001-present: Philips Design in Eindhoven
- Project Manager Interactive Media (2001-2002):
Back
to the company of my internship: one of the biggest design agencies
in the world. My function: project manager in the interaction design
team. I had a lot of experience from 'the real world' in my backpack
which was really usefull when setting up the e-design department
in Philips Design. We did a lot of interesting projects for this
multinational (Philips) and because of my experience I was asked
to take over complex projects. As a temporary function I was chair
of the WEB board; Define strategy for the Philips
Design Global webpresence.
- Program Manager Brand Design Management
(2002-present):
I started this task as a project manager, but since 2011 I am the program manager of a small team of project managers to manage the projects of this headquarter function. This task started in 2002 for 50% of my time. Since 2003 this is
my main task: project manager of all Brand Design Management projects
for the Vice President, who has this corporate
task in his portfolio. As a Project Manager I implemented the Philips Brand Foundation and refreshed Corporate Identity, and later the Brand Positioning
in the organisation, and applied the new Corporate Identity to Philips Design. My main task: Setting up, budgetting, initiation and deployment of the Cultural
Program for our 13 global branches, to deliver food-for-thought for the Creative Direction Management platforms. After the development of the needed tools the deployment
to (all) employees starts in workshops up to 275 global participants.
Some examples of 'my' Cultural Program projects:
- 2003: New Value Signs toolbox
- 2004: Triple Event (Brand positioning, persona, touchpoints)
- 2005: September Event (A sustainable design vision)
Read this article on the Chulha, the first concept of the Sustainability workshop we worked out into a product. In 2008 we won an IDEA award for the final design of the Chulha stove. See also the site of Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and a Red-Dot award. In 2009 we are a finalist for the INDEX: Award, my colleague Unmesh from India was interviewed: In August 2009 we won this prestigious award> Watch the video and the ceremonie (starts at 19 min). The September Event and The Chulha project belong to our Philanthropy by Design initiative, on which US BusinessWeek reported in September 2008. Also a second proofpoint under this initiative won a bronze IDEA award: the Breath Counter.
Because I'm involved in this global task, I'm also asked to manage some
related projects, like the development of a Philips font (2004) and the financial project management of Next Simplicity (2005). These are projects for Global Brand Management, part of Corporate Headquarters
in Amsterdam.
2011-present: Hilaris in Schaijk
In 2011, me and a partner started our own business, besides my work at Philips. Our company is called Hilaris and the first product we have created is Chiggy, a sweet little girl. With the magic mirror on her shirt she can change into who she wants. The site is intended for children between 3 and 10 years. Visitors to her site can also experience these creative adventures through hundreds of educational activities. Have a look at Chiggy's site and join to get access to even more materials!
